Flyers vs Bruins in Fenway Park Winter Classic
The Flyers-Bruins match at Fenway is apparently a done deal with an announcement due any day by the league. The league initially wanted Washington, but the network supposedly shot down the idea thinking the ratings would be better with the Flyers. No offense to the Flyers, but having the best player in the world (Ovechkin) in an event like this would have been a smarter marketing decision. If ratings were the driver, then why not have the Bruins play their biggest rival - Montreal? Me thinks Mr. Snyder is working hard behind the scenes here. If you're thinking of getting tickets, buy them at TicketBoston.com now!

Bastille NightStorm the Bastille or Storm Boylston St…
Life hasn’t changed much since 1789, the French Monarchy have been dethroned and the outraged common class wants to party! The middle class is taking over France…or should we say Boylston Street for a night of French celebration! Dress like a Frenchman and sport the colors of Pabst Blue Ribbon…blue, white, and red! At 9 pm Tuesday night the bar will be overthrown by Sel de la Terre’s Chef’s fully armed with Pommes Frites taking over tables and attacking you at full speed.
So come prepared to fight back and consume them at no cost! Put aside your pitchforks and grab a drink instead. $3 Tall Boy PBRs await you or go crazy with $5 Storm the Bastille cocktail (ginger beer, brandy, and Chambord) that can cut off any edge, after a few your senses will be heightened and you can handle any foolish aristocrat! If you still don’t feel liberated head over to the French Quarter grab a bar menu and start ordering some delicacies, but make sure to have a drink in hand. If too many drinks cause memory loss, the film Les Miserable will remind you of where you are and why you are celebrating, just stare at the screen. July 14th, 9pm to close, downstairs bar, Viva la France!

About Celebration of Life
Celebration of Life is a full day of celebration, education and kinship for the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) cancer community to raise awareness about the battle against cancer. This poignant event also welcomes men and women who receive their care from other hospitals in and around Boston – and beyond.
Since 1993, patients and their family members and close friends, along with physicians, nurses, social workers, and other cancer caregivers at BIDMC have gathered together for a daylong celebration in June. This inspiring event allows people living with cancer an opportunity to share their stories and learn from Harvard Medical School affiliated physicians, other community experts, and of course, each other.
“It’s the pinnacle of the year for those who have been touched by this disease, patients and healthcare professionals alike,” said Hester Hill Schnipper, LICSW, BCD, chief of oncology social work at BIDMC, and a breast cancer survivor. “Celebration of Life ‘puts a face’ on cancer, while providing hope to all that fight it,” Hill Schnipper adds.
Event Programs and Highlights
This year's Celebration will include more than two dozen symposia and workshops led by our very own BIDMC faculty and staff as well as other community experts. The event will feature an extended lunchtime discussion with cancer survivors hosted by WCVB-TV reporter and breast cancer survivor, Kelly Tuthill, lively music, art, and more opporunities for participants to share their personal stories.
Other features include:
a display of art, photography, sculpture and crafts created by cancer patients and members of the cancer community
a book of poems and writings
a silent auction and raffles
opportunities for massage and Reiki treatments
catered breakfast and lunch
entertainment

Calling All Optimists!
Life is good® To Host Free Feel-Good Festival on Boston Common on June 20, 2009
Good Vibes Music to Feature Blind Boys of Alabama, Brett Dennen and Family Favorite SteveSongs
Boston, MA – On a mission to spread good vibes from coast to coast, The Life is good Company will once again take over the Boston Common on June 20, 2009, with a free-day-long family festival. From great music to good food – and all for a good cause – the Life is good festival is the place to be for all optimists…and those who want to be.
Life is good®, a Boston-based company that spreads good vibes through its colorful collection of apparel and accessories, has attracted more than 375,000 people and raised over $3 million for children in need through its nationally-known festivals. The free, outdoor celebrations feature great live music, classic backyard food, and a colorful mix of good-time games and activities for all ages. From seed spitting and Double Dutch to soccer kicks, tug-o’-wars and football flings, the Life is good Festival on the Boston Common is an invitation to free family fun and healthy play.
Funds raised through donations onsite and all profits from the sale of Life is good merchandise at the event benefit Project Joy, a nationally-recognized non-profit organization whose mission is to use the healing power of play to transform children impacted by violence, poverty and loss into healthy players in the game of life. First established in Boston, Project Joy has expanded nationally, working with organizations on the Gulf Coast helping children affected by Hurricane Katrina as well as organizations throughout New England and as far away as Hawaii.
“We love bringing the Life is good Festival to Boston Common each year and bringing the community together for an old-fashioned day of outdoor fun in the sun.. The upbeat, old-time festival feel reminds us – especially in these challenging times – that we all have much to be grateful for and much to celebrate,” said Bert Jacobs, Life is good co-founder and chief executive optimist. “There are serious intentions behind all the fun too; more than ever kids are hurting in our city and need our help, and I know that the community of Boston will respond with a generous spirit.”
In 2009, Life is good will expand its unique brand of playful optimism to an even wider audience than ever before, with four free, family-friendly festivals in major markets, including San Francisco, Toronto and St. Louis, in addition to the Boston festival. Each festival will feature top-notch musical acts and outdoor fun for all ages.
“Joining hands with Life is good offers us an incredible opportunity to educate people on the power of play,” said Steven Gross, executive director for Project Joy. “Many of us take play for granted. Yet it has amazing powers to help children who have suffered from or witnessed trauma in their lives. With the support of Life is good and all who attend one of these festivals, Project Joy can help children who need it most to once again embrace their playful natures and reach their full potentials.”
The Life is good Festival on the Boston Common will feature top live entertainment, including music from The Blind Boys of Alabama, Brett Dennen and family-favorite SteveSongs.
The Blind Boys of Alabama
The legendary Blind Boys of Alabama combine musical passion and talent like very few others. Since coming together in 1939 at Alabama’s Talladega Institute for the Blind, The Blind Boys of Alabama have sung a fervent blend of traditional and contemporary Gospel music. Winner of five Grammy Awards and recipient of the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2009, The Blind Boys’ audience now reflects the group’s eclectic, global following, while their repertoire has expanded to embrace secular songs with a strongly spiritual message. The Blind Boys have also performed and recorded with the likes of Bonnie Raitt, Randy Travis, Peter Gabriel, Solomon Burke, Lou Reed, Tom Petty, John Fogarty and Ben Harper.
Brett Dennen
Rolling Stone named Brett one of its “Top Ten Artists to Watch” last year, and his 2009 success supports the prediction. He will soon complete a 54-city tour -- happily supported by Life is good in appreciation for Dennen’s support for the Life is good Kids Foundation – as he rides the success of his latest CD Hope for the Hopeless. He will arrive at the Life is good Festival in Boston fresh off a UK tour with The Fray and a performance at Bonnaroo. His rich voice, gifted songwriting and commitment to positive social change make him a not-to-be-missed performer.
SteveSongs
Family-favorite SteveSongs is the winner of numerous prestigious awards, including two Parents’ Choice Gold Awards, an iParenting Media Award, and a Children’s Music Web Award. Founder Steve Roslonek can be seen daily on the PBS Kids preschool destination – the two-hour morning television block and online destination at pbskids.org – as the new music teacher, “Mr. Steve.” Steve’s live shows rock with guitars, vocal-bass and drums, along with the Sensational Sillies on background vocals. Kids dance, sing and rarely sit still at a SteveSongs concert, leaving parents no choice but to join the fun.
In addition to great tunes, The Boston Common will become a destination for the entire family, featuring dozens of classic backyard games and activities, divided into several “villages:”
· Jaketown features familiar games aplenty, including football, lacrosse, speed pitch, soccer kick, Frisbee toss, basketball, tug-o’-war, volleyball, and much more.
· Chillville is the perfect cool-down spot between physical activities, showcasing arts and crafts, face painting, and an entertaining kids’ stage.
· The Joy Zone features cooperative kids’ games hosted by Project Joy, including its amazing multi-colored 50-foot parachute.
The 2009 Life is good Festival on Boston Common is sponsored by Citizens Bank, Clif Bar & Company, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Harvard Pilgrim Health Care, Mike FM, Pepperidge Farm, SAP, Sweet Leaf Tea, UPS and Verizon Wireless

The Norman B. Leventhal Walk to the Sea Showcases Boston’s History
Boston, MA–The Norman B. Leventhal Walk to the Sea (http://www.walktothesea.com/) is the latest addition to the free and accessible walking history of Boston; and this will be the first spring and summer season it exists for all to enjoy!
The Walk to the Sea encompasses four centuries of Boston history. Beginning at the State House on Beacon Hill, overlooking Boston's ancient Common, the Walk passes among historic landmarks and skyscrapers. The Walk from summit to sea, spanning one mile and descending a hundred feet, brings that history to life.

The Norman B. Leventhal Walk to the Sea will provide generations of students, tourists and history buffs a compelling glimpse of Boston and American history through ten exquisite glass and stainless steel panels along the walk’s one-mile route. The panels display images, maps and a brief history that tracks Boston’s transformation from a colonial port to a major urban center. It complements the city’s famed Freedom Trail and the many other historical sites that draw millions of tourists to Boston every year
Mayor Thomas Menino dedicated the Norman B. Leventhal Walk to the Sea in 2008.
The Walk is a one-mile journey that begins at the top of Beacon Hill. From there, the trails winds through Beacon, Tremont, Court and State Streets and ends at Long Wharf. Panels are located at these stops along the trail:
· Beacon Hill
· King’s Chapel
· Government Center
· Old State House
· Exchange Building
· Custom House
· Rose Kennedy Greenway

Shop Til’ You Drop! Boston Style
Boston offers a tremendous variety of shopping selection and can be easily navigated with a little help. There are the most popular shopping locations like; The Prudential, Newbury St., Quincy Market, The Cambridge Side Galleria, Atrium Mall, Natick Mall, and many more. These locations are ideal if you want popular brand name clothing brands, however, this is not all Boston has to offer. These locations will be further detailed later, but for now let’s start with the Best GoBoston Blog picks.
Best of Boston: Underground
Bodega

Link: http://www.bdgastore.com
Phone # : (617) 421-1550
Bodega is an Underground speciality shop which offers some the freshest gear Boston has to offer. An interesting aspect of Bodega is the ‘secret entrance’ within the store. On the surface, Bodega appears to be a run-down old convenience store. However, beyond a ‘secret entrance’ lies high-end urban streetwear- most specifically sneakers. The prices aren’t the cheapest but the sneakers are undoubtedly unique and are seemingly impossible to find elsewhere. The immersion factor of the Hispanic style Bodega is one unique selling point which almost any Boston visitor will enjoy.

LAB

LAB offers a tremendously large selection of underground/ hip hop apparel. The store-front itself is not extremely large, however, their online store is far more extensive so don’t be discouraged if they don’t have the size of your favorite shirt.
